Keeping Up with COVID-19

Well hello there bloggers! What can I say...I am not very good at keeping up with the current events in my life. As it is, I can barely remember what I do on a daily basis so remembering to keep this blog updated is pretty difficult. However, there is nothing like a national emergency to get me back to my love of writing. For the past couple of weeks, I have been toying with the idea of throwing my unimportant two cents out there regarding this whole pandemic. But now that we have been put on lockdown, I think it's time.

COVID-19 will go down in history as the virus that literally halted life. The world is still spinning and the days are flying by, but life, as we know it, has been stopped. Schools are closed, churches are closed, stores are closing and people are staying locked in their homes preparing to hibernate for the next couple of months. All of this has sparked my interest in how must this make y'all feel?

I've seen this country change almost overnight. A lot I expected to see once this was declared a national emergency and some things that continue to surprise me. I've seen everything from people fight over common household items to communities coming together to offer support to those in need. I've also been reminded that we are animals that live by certain social constructs that we are told to live by, but when we feel threatened, we instinctually act out before we think about the bigger picture. This doesn't always mean with violence, it just means we buy out the stores thinking spending $500 on just paper goods and cleaning products is a good idea. It means we create lines as if we are at Disneyland waiting to ride the attractions. It means we create fake news and buy into the hysteria.

In education we use the term, "productive anxiety" this means that low or moderate anxiety can actually increase productivity and students are able to effectively respond to external demands. But when something gets too tough, students need to take a break and come back to it later. I think this situation requires the same idea. COVID-19 is definitely something we need to have a productive amount of anxiety about. Wash your hands, stay home when you're sick, buying only what you need and leaving things for others. The key is not to panic, don't spread rumors, relay only facts. My point is, understand that there is such a thing as supply and demand. Eventually, the demand is going to outweigh what can be supplied. So relax, breathe and have faith.

Faith means many things to many different people and it doesn't always refer to a religious belief and I encourage everyone to keep their version of faith.

To me, faith is spiritual in every sense of the word. ::It is having confidence in what we hope for and assurance in what we cannot see - Hebrews 11:1::
I have faith this to shall pass and God will give the strength to those that need it to find what we need to stop this virus and prevent it from continuing to spread. I mean let's be real it was done in 1918 with the flu with fewer resources. With God's graces, we will find what is needed. I thank those who are working tearlessly to find a vaccine, but I hope they give themselves grace and take a step back when things get tough to reevaluate the situation before continuing to work.

We will get through this and we will do it together, so remember, relax, breathe and have faith.

As always, thanks for reading!
Sammie ♥
